Sabuj Biswasসবুজ বিশ্বাস

I study the bacterial communities of Bangladesh's rivers, fish and farms: from the riverbank to the sequencer to the statistics. I also write the software that makes the analysis reproducible.

Microbes where water, fish and people meet

Bangladesh lives on its rivers and ponds. Its rivers carry industrial and sewage pollution, and its fish farms are among the most productive in the world. I use sequencing and culture to ask which bacteria live in these waters, how pollution and farming reshape them, and which of them matter for fish health and antimicrobial resistance.

River & environmental microbiomes

16S rRNA amplicon profiling of river water and sediment along urban pollution gradients, analysed with compositional statistics.

Buriganga–Turag rivers: 28 samples, 14 sites

Fish & shrimp microbiomes

How the gut microbiome differs between wild and farmed animals, and where antibiotic-resistance genes turn up along the coast.

Hilsa shad · Penaeus monodon

Fish genomics & pathogens

Mitochondrial genomes of farmed catfish, and genome-based profiling of the bacterial pathogens behind disease outbreaks in pangas farms.

Pangasius pangasius mitogenome

Reproducible bioinformatics

Scripted QIIME 2, DADA2 and R pipelines where every reported number traces back to the code and the raw reads.

Software people use every day

The habits that keep an analysis honest (tests, version control, clear data models) also make good apps. I design, build and maintain these end to end.
